about

Welcome

I became interested in depth-psychology shortly after I discharged from the United States Marine Corps and began pursuing a bachelor’s degree in psychology. Through an introduction to psychology course, I stumbled upon a collection of Carl Jung’s writings in a book titled, Modern Man in Search of a Soul. Upon reading this book, I was convinced I would commit my lifework to the field of psychology. I decided to study clinical psychology at the doctoral level and was accepted into Regent University’s PsyD program.

Much disappointed with the lack of depth-orientation in this program, I supplemented my assigned readings with primary texts by Freud, Jung, Adler, and many contemporary psychoanalysts. I decided to engage in recorded conversations with the authors I was reading and share these conversations with others. This led to me creating the Daniel T. Bourne podcast.

One project I am particularly proud of is one I hosted with Drs. Nancy McWilliams (an integrative psychoanalyst), Kenneth James (a Jungian analyst), and Erik Mansager (a Classical Adlerian Depth Psychotherapist). It is inspired by the Three Approaches to Psychotherapy film (“The Gloria Films”) by the APA. We titled it Three Psychodynamic Approaches to Psychotherapy. One can find contemporary videos put out by the APA on various approaches to psychotherapy, while the videos showing psychoanalysis, Jungian analysis, or Adlerian therapy are limited to none. It was my hope that by making this film free and readily available, the conversation would be increased around the effectiveness of these approaches. You can view that here: Three Psychodynamic Approaches to Psychotherapy.

I hope to continue growing my podcast and eventually record more in-person interviews in a high-quality style. For now, I will be utilizing this website to upload transcripts from my interviews – as well as writings when I feel so inclined.

Whether you are a therapist, psychologist, psychoanalyst, student, reader of literature, or simply someone interested in these topics, I hope you will find something here for you.

Thank you for being here.
